Kolej Tun Dr Ismail English Debate Club was established back in 2012. Envisioned and founded by a group of enthusiastic and motivated debaters from the Medical Faculty of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the club aspires to harness debating skills and confidence among medical students to become competent future medical professionals.
The aim of this club is to promote the usage of English language and also to boost students’ confidence level in communication. Therefore, a platform is created for students to learn how to apply the knowledge gained on current issues by debating.
Known for organising the prestigious intervarsity medical debate competition ‘UKM MEDEBATE’, the first event organized in 2013, was a huge success as many universities participated and gave good feedback about the program. This year will be the third time that KTDI English Debate Club organises a heated debate competition among medical and allied health students from universities all around Malaysia. In this particular edition of UKM MEDEBATE 2015, the Malaysian Integrated Medical Professional Association (MIMPA) and Malaysian Integrated Medical Professional Association Youth Club (MY Club) decided to give a helping hand by joining the organizing team. We do not limit the debate to medical students only because we want students to experience different opinions and perspective from various health field such as allied health course. Furthermore, this year’s MEDEBATE sets out to be distinctively interesting as the theme is ‘Medical Ethics’, a highly debateable, interesting and closely related theme for allied health students.
This year, this one day event will be held on 11th April 2015, starting at 7am to 6.30pm. The venue will be at Pre-Clinical Block, Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
